Each Expressnet VDS utilises the latest in Microsoft's virtualisation technology called Hyper-V. Hyper-V is is a Hypervisor (Hardware level) virtualisation and runs natively with the newly released Windows Server 2008. The advantages of a Hypervisor based VDS are that it is a base level virtualisation meaning there are no limits on the operating system that you run on the VDS. You can run Windows Server 2008 Web, Standard or Enterprise editions, Windows Server 2003, or many of the variants of Linux that are available.

Running a VDS with Windows Server 2008 allows yout to run IIS 7.0 which is native to Windows Server 2008. This gives up to a 30% increase in performance over IIS 6.0 which comes with Windows Server 2003.

VDS Management
Each Expressnet VDS includes operating system installation and initial control panel configuration including ASP.NET and integration with Expressnet's shared services (including Email, DNS and Dedicated SQL).

Operating system and component updates and upgrades are the responsibility of the end user. Expressnet can provide these services if you include the VDS Monthly Maintenance addon in your order. You can always add this to your account later on from within the billing system.

VDS Monthly Management addon

The VDS Monthly Management addon provides the following services.

2. Monthly review of Event Viewer and resolution/notification of issues
3. FProt Anti-Virus including regular updates
